Uche Ignites Dominant Crystal Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their maiden European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting at a rapid pace. Missing key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to seal straight passage to the last 16, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were no match even for a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, fizzing a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.
The home side were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still room for development in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect night for the visiting side.
