Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
